2005 gmc sierra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Denali luxury now with crew cab room. introductionthe gmc sierra is nearly identical to the chevy silverado but features more mature, restrained styling. With their 5-foot, 8-inch cargo box, sierra crew cabs are no longer than standard-bed, extended-cab models for easier parking and maneuverability. The 1500hd crew cab, which returns for 2005 after a one-year hiatus, can tow up to 10,200 pounds. Even the plush denali tows 8,100 pounds.  yet all sierras deliver a smooth, comfortable ride among the full-size pickups. Even compared to more recently introduced or re-engineered pickups from ford, dodge, and nissan, the sierra rides and handles very well. Although nominally classified as light duty or 'half-ton' trucks, the 1500s offer payloads ranging from 1,215 to 2,040 pounds, and tow ratings from 4,100 up to 9,000 pounds, depending on equipment. That's all the truck most consumers will ever need.  engine choices include a 4. 3-liter v6, 4. 8-liter v8, and 5. 3-liter v8. Available only as a crew cab with a 6-foot-6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot-8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,073 pounds with 2wd, 2,766 pounds with 4wd, and tows 10,200 pounds. Power is provided by the same 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500; but the 1500hd should ride more smoothly than the heavy-duty trucks.  base models come with abs, air conditioning, cruise control, am/fm/cd audio, an attractive chrome grille molding, a chrome rear step bumper, and 17-inch chromed steel wheels. Carpeting and cloth seats are also standard. Regular and extended cabs are available, but not the crew cab, base prices range from $21,045 to $31,270.  the w/t (work truck) model deletes the cd player, chrome, cruise control and carpeting. These plane-jane trucks are aimed at commercial and municipal fleets, with prices ranging from $18,770 to $29,540.  sle trim adds fog lamps; power windows, mirrors, and door locks; a leather-wrapped steering wheel; overhead console; and other amenities. Leather upholstery is optional. The 4. 8-liter v8 and automatic transmission are standard on regular and extended cabs; crew cabs come with the 5. 3 and automatic. Prices range from $25,755 to $34,140.  slt trim, available on extended cabs and crew cabs, adds automatic dual-zone air conditioning, leather upholstery, power-adjustable bucket seats with heat and memory, floor console, heated outside mirrors, new gen6 onstar telecommunications and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The 5. 3-liter v8 is standard, with a higher-performing, all-aluminum 5. 3 in 4wd extended cabs. Denali comes with tone-on-tone leather, extra sound deadening, a bose audio system with separate controls for rear-seat passengers, and other exclusive amenities. It's equipped with steering wheel controls for the audio system, gen6 onstar, trip computer, and other programmable functions. Quadrasteer reduces sierra's curb-to-curb turning diameter by 26 percent and enhances high-speed stability. It comes packaged 1,995) with a limited-slip differential, heavy-duty brakes and clearance lights. walkaroundthe front styling of the gmc sierra ties it closely to the mid-size gmc envoy, and to some of the great gmc pickups of the past. The chrome-framed grille consists of three black horizontal bars that prominently display a big red gmc emblem. Chromed front bumpers include two airflow cutouts. Up-level models have a body-colored lower front fascia; base models have a light-charcoal fascia. An optional grille/brush guard adds front-end protection. A single onstar roof antenna combines the gps and cell-phone functions.  compared with the chevrolet silverado, gmc's styling is more conservative, more mature, with smoother, more sophisticated lines. Its chromed mesh grille looks like something from a hot-rod shop. Projector-beam headlamps and unique front fascia and fog lamps add up-market distinction, along with body color on the door handles, side moldings, tailgate handle, outside mirrors, rear bumper and tonneau cover. Chrome running boards with integral mud guards further distinguish the denali from other sierras.  for 2005, nearly all sierras come with 17-inch wheels: painted steel on work trucks, chromed steel on base and sle, aluminum on slt and polished aluminum on denali. The only exceptions are the 1500hd and the hybrid, which make do with 16-inch rims. Denali models are available with 20-inch wheels for a stronger styling statement.  the load height (the distance from the ground to the bed) for 2wd sierra models is just 31. 6 inches. For 4wd models, it's 33. 7 inches. The frame rails are hydroformed, a process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape relatively large steel components. Tubular crossmembers and roll-formed mid-rails increase rigidity further. This stiff structure enhances handling and ride quality immensely, while improving crashworthiness. interiorthe gmc sierra cab remains among the roomiest in the industry, with large door openings to aid entry and exit. The seats are big and cushy. Other pickup owners find the gm seats more to their liking. Also, the interior door handles are ropey and awkward.  the instrument cluster features highly legible gauges with white backlighting and orange pointers. The denali's gauges are unique and feature blue backlighting and white pointers. A driver information center reports on as many as 27 vehicle functions with an easy-to-read, single-line lcd display. A compass is incorporated into the overhead console, along with three storage areas for sunglasses, garage door opener, and small items.  audio and climate controls are sophisticated, yet easy to operate. The system comes with am, fm1, fm2, xm1, and xm2 bands. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls (on slt and denali) make it easy to switch among station presets and modes. Onstar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the united s. 2001 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks are only the beginning. introductionthere's nothing on the road quite like chrysler's new pt cruiser, and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character.  yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and a reasonable price. Chrysler turned the automotive industry on its ear when it launched the dodge viper and plymouth prowler. Those cars showcased chrysler's design trends. Viper and prowler are great cars for serious enthusiasts who don't mind making a few sacrifices in terms of comfort and convenience. But, in a way, the pt cruiser is even more exciting because it's a real car suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the base car. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard.  the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges.  the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet.  all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations.  the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots.  with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. It weighs 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, meaning each of its 150 horsepower pulls roughly 21 pounds of iron. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances.  the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the 2. 4's power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads.  the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride.  they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds.  a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. There is little wind noise, almost no tire or road noise, and just an audible whine from the drivetrain. It has better noise, vibration and harshness control than chrysler products of the mid- to late 1990s have conditioned us to expect.  front disc and rear drum brakes are standard. The cruiser is, however, a car. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ Climate Control✔ CD Changer✔ Aluminum Wheels✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2010 volkswagen cc review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The styling is radical by volkswagen standards, certainly eye-catching in its sleekness. The cc, for comfort coupe, was launched as an all-new model for 2009 and carries through 2010 unchanged.  the interior design and materials are exceptional; and the optional two-tone stitched leather bucket seats are downright italian-like. Yet it retails for less than $30,000 taillights over the curb, making it a compelling value. The 2. 0-liter engine makes 200 horsepower and gets an epa-estimated 31 mpg highway on premium fuel. We found it delightful underway, smooth and very responsive.  vr6 models use the dynamic vw 3. 6-liter v6, now making 280 horsepower, and the tiptronic. It's a great setup, though with its higher price the value equation isn't as compelling as it is with the 2. 0.  we found the highway ride smooth and solid, firm but not harsh. The electromechanical steering makes parking easy. The brakes work very well. lineupthe 2010 volkswagen cc models include the sport, luxury, vr6 sport, and vr6 4motion. The only transmission available in the other three models.  sport 27,550) comes with leatherette upholstery, heated 12-way adjustable driver's seat and eight-way passenger seat, premium 6cd/mp3 audio, 17-inch alloy wheels with 235/45r17 self-sealing all-season tires, sports suspension, traction control with differential lock, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and multi-function steering wheel with aluminum trim. The sport comes standard with the six-speed manual transmission, but is also available with the six-speed tiptronic 28,650) automatic.  luxury 32,830) upgrades to leather upholstery, fancier alloy wheels, tilt panorama sunroof, dual zone climate control, park distance control, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, heated washer nozzles, homelink, brushed aluminum interior trim, sirius radio, memory seats and self-dimming rearview mirror. The tiptronic comes standard.  vr6 sport 39,015) adds paddle shifters, power rear sunshade, a 600-watt dynaudio premium sound system. The vr6 sport comes with the v6 engine and tiptronic automatic.  vr6 4motion 40,115) adds volkswagen's sophisticated all-wheel-drive system with haldex center differential.  safety equipment includes six airbags (frontal, side front and full curtain), advanced stability control with abs, tire pressure monitoring system. 4motion can enhance safety in adverse conditions. walkaroundthe cc was a surprise to the market, and the reviews of its styling since its launch have been very favorable. It achieves what it sets out to do: look like a really expensive car. The new sleek roofline seemingly came straight from a hotrod chop shop, lower by a couple of inches (a mere 56 inches tall) and swept back as if the car were racing into a 200-mph wind. The c pillar is wide, but barely visible because it flows back, not down. On the same wheelbase as the passat, the cc has a slightly wider track and is only 1. 2 inches longer, but the shape makes it look bigger. But it's only 62 pounds heavier than a passat.  it's unmistakably volkswagen from the front, because of the big vw in the grille, but mistakable from other angles. It's hard to see that the track is only . 4 inches wider in the front (. 6 in the rear), because of the width of the chrome grill with two horizontal bars, and the wraparound headlamps with arrowhead corners front and back. The air intake under the grille gives the cc a strong jaw, with foglamps each side, under long thin amber slivers for turn signals (with amber slits on the mirrors, very cool). The whole nose says upscale.  the profile says upscale too, but it sure doesn't say volkswagen. The cc looks more upscale than even the $80,000 phaeton. Just not as big.  out of the bold front fender flares, character lines zoom rearward and upward like speed lines, most dramatically the top lines that nearly touch the taillights. The lower line has a chrome strip pasted over it, and it wraps around the rear of the car over the rear bumper. The windshield is steeply raked, the doorsill high and the seat low, although it doesn't have to be that way because height is one of the 12 ways the seat is adjustable. So visibility out the front is not compromised. It's not bad out the rear either, although the headrests don't help; and blind spots from the wide c pillars are reduced by fixed triangular rear door windows behind the passengers' ears. Which are perilously close to the steeply sloping roofline. Rear seat headroom is something that definitely has been compromised by the lower roof.  the two seats in the rear are bucket-like, ergonomically designed like the fronts, with wide thigh bolsters, separated by the space taken up by a rolltop cupholding console, as well as a fold-down armrest (behind which is a pass-through hatch to the trunk for skis and such). Not just cupholders in there, but small triangular bins for poker chips or peanuts or whatever. There's a decent but not sumptious 37. 3 inches of rear legroom.  each seat is a cozy compartment that makes a passenger feel special, to have his or her own space, like a space ship. Plus, there's an emergency medical kit in that console. It's a driver's compartment made for relaxing, with good vents to control the climate. driving impressionthe 200-horsepower, turbocharged 2. 0-liter engine shoots the car forward impressively, as quick, smooth and satisfying as just about any v6 in any sedan: 0-60 in 7. 4 seconds, and only 0. 1 second slower in the quarter-mile than the vr6. Torque is 207 pound-feet, but, importantly, it comes on at 1700 rpm. With variable valve timing and direct injection, in addition to the turbocharger intercooler, the 2. 0 leads its class in technology.  fuel mileage for the 2. 0-liter engine is epa-rated at 21/31 city/highway, which is what we got with more than 50 percent highway driving, including some rapid two-lane transit. Top speed is 130 mph, and we didn't go there, but we'll bet it could run near those speeds without stress, on the autobahn. And although the tiptronic manual mode lends itself to playtime, the rest of the car doesn't really. This is a gentleman's sport sedan comfort coupe thing. Sport is a relative game. 2011 bmw 1 series review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Inspiration for the 1 series came from the bmw 2002 of some 40 years ago (1968-76).  the 2011 bmw 1 series comes in coupe and convertible models in two versions: the bmw 128i and the bmw 135i.  the 2011 bmw 135i benefits from an all-new inline-6 engine, here using a single turbocharger to produce 300 horsepower, and paired with the sporty 7-speed dual clutch transmission from the z4 roadster. (code-named n55, the 2011 engine replaces last year's 300-hp twin-turbo inline-6.) the 2011 bmw 135i is also available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which we found silky smooth and a pleasure to operate. Fuel economy from the 135i even edges that of the 128i, with an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway for a 2011 135i coupe.  the 2011 bmw 128i coupe and convertible continue to be powered by the normally aspirated 3. 0-liter inline-6 that generates 230 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. They're available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed steptronic automatic.  an m sport package adds a sports suspension that favors handling over ride quality.  the bmw 1 series is nearly seven inches shorter overall than the 3 series. The 1 series brings bmw's highly developed rear-wheel-drive platform to compete with cars in the entry luxury coupe class that mostly use front-wheel drive.  in many ways, the 1 series is nothing more or less than a scaled-down version of the 3 series, with similar looks, similar equipment and similar performance and handling. Indeed, it uses many of the same components and systems. The 135i is a smaller, lighter package with the same engine as the 3 series for a lot less money. The bmw 1 series was launched in the u. As a 2008 model, initially only as a coupe.  we like these cars. They're comfortable, sitting in one is like sitting in a 3 series. Underway, they are sporty and agile, driver's cars, with the feel of rear-wheel drive. We found a 128i convertible is a delight and it has enough power. Most fun to drive is a 135i coupe, though we recommend against the m suspension due to the hard ride. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard, a 6-speed automatic is optional 1,375).  the bmw 135i coupe 36,050) includes a firmer sport suspension and high-performance brakes, m sport aero body kit, adaptive xenon headlights with washers, sunroof, gray poplar wood interior trim, and p215/40yr18 front tires leading p245/35yr18 rears. A 6-speed manual is standard. New for 2011 is an optional 7-speed dct dual clutch automated manual transmission 1,575).  the bmw 128i convertible 34,200) and bmw 135i convertible 40,350) are equipped similarly to their coupe counterparts, except they don't have folding rear seats or a sunroof, and they ride on less radical rubber. The 128i soft top comes with p205/55hr16 run-flat rubber front and rear, while the 135i convertible gets p205/50r17 run-flat tires. Both come with a fully automatic fabric folding top. The 135i convertible does not have the coupe's body kit. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard on both 1 series convertibles; the 6-speed automatic is optional on the 128i 1,375); the 7-speed dct is optional for 135i 1,575).  options include a sport package 1,300) for the 128i models includes the sport suspension, sport seats, shadowline exterior trim, an increased top-speed limiter, and p205/50r17 front and p225/45r17 rear run-flat tires. The coupe also gets a black headliner. The m sport package for the 135i coupe 1,300) and 135i convertible 1,200) includes the increased top-speed limiter, m sport seats, m sport steering wheel, black headliner (coupe), shadowline trim, body cladding, and 18-inch performance tires.  a premium package upgrades with leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats with lumbar adjustment, memory for the driver's seat and mirrors, bmw assist telematics service, bluetooth wireless cell phone link, auto-dimming power-folding exterior mirrors, wood interior trim, universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, illuminated visor mirrors, and additional interior lights. The 128i coupe version also includes a sunroof. A convenience package includes rear park assist, keyless access and starting, steering-linked adaptive xenon headlights, and an alarm. A cold weather package 900) adds heated front seats, a trunk pass-through with a ski sack, and headlight washers.  standalone options include leather upholstery 1,450), heated front seats 500), heated steering wheel 150), navigation system 2,100), bmw assist 750) with bluetooth connectivity, sirius satellite radio 350), ipod/usb adapter 400), smartphone integration 150), steering wheel shift paddles 120), harman kardon audio 875), 8-way power front seats 995), and adaptive xenon headlights 900). Wood trim is available on the 128i 500) and can be omitted from the 135i (for no charge).  safety features that come standard on the 1 series include dual front airbags, seat-mounted front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags (coupe only), abs, electronic stability control, traction control, cornering brake control, and launch control for getting started on slippery surfaces. The brake lights include a panic-braking mode that lights up the entire lens extra bright whenever the brake pedal is stomped hard. The federally mandated tire-pressure monitor is standard. walkaroundthe bmw 1 series is definitely short in the rear compared to the larger 3 series, but it looks good that way. It doesn't look cheap or cut off or bandaged. Every major part of the car, the nose, the bodyside, the roof and the rear end, blends with the rest of the car to make a shorter, narrower version of the 3 series with a different and special roofline. Some would argue, however, that the slab-like sides are bland compared to other, more sculpted bmws.  we're fond of the m aerodynamics package standard on the 135i, including the huge air intakes below the bumper, necessary for cooling the turbocharger intake air. The 128i has a cleaner, albeit more conventional, full-width opening below the bumper, divided into three parts by two angled struts. The outboard sections are then sub-divided horizontally, with a fog light at the top and a small grille underneath. The bottom edge of the opening turns up at the ends, smile-like.  at the rear, the 128i dispenses with the 135i's prominent spoiler, in favor of a more gentle lip integrated into the trunk lid. And the 128i's rear bumper is entirely body-color, lacking the black-out panel seen on the 135i. Drag coefficient actually improves, from 0. 33 to 0. 31 cd.  put the top down on the convertible models, and the flared shoulder line that's shared with the coupes seems to form a single surface that surrounds the interior, like the deck of a small boat. Just about everything inside is in the same location and looks and operates the same way.  we found the front bucket seats to be very comfortable and supportive, with big side bolsters. It includes a central control knob with a separate menu button, while other version add cd, tel, radio, nav, back and option buttons around the controller. Those extra buttons provide easier access various functions, eliminating a few steps. Both versions require some time to learn, but the system in the 1 series is a little more daunting. Having tried idrive numerous times, we're used to it and not entirely annoyed, but many drivers will find it overly complicated.  all 1 series coupes come with a 60/40 split folding rear seat than can almost triple the trunk's 10 cubic feet of s. More refinement and a new high-performance version. introductionthe bmw 1 series features improved aerodynamics and interior refinements for the 2012 model year, plus a high-performance 1 series m coupe has joined the lineup.  the 2012 bmw 128i coupe and convertible models get a redesigned front fascia for improved aerodynamics along with new design accents around the headlight and tail light clusters. Inside, all 2012 bmw 1 series models have been updated with new switches and controls for a more refined look and feel.  new for 2012 is the 1 series m coupe, a high-performance version that can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 4. 7 seconds on its way to a ridiculously high speed, limited electronically at 155 mph.  the bmw 1 series is the marque's smallest car, in some ways the spiritual successor to the bmw 2002 produced 1968-76 and in other ways the 320i that followed. They're available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed steptronic automatic. Bmw says the 128i can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7. 0 seconds with the automatic, 6. 4 seconds with the manual.  the bmw 135i features bmw's newest 3. 0-liter inline-6, a single-turbocharged engine that generates 300 horsepower and 300 foot-pounds of torque. The bmw 135i coupe and convertible are available with a sporty 7-speed dual clutch transmission or 6-speed manual gearbox, which we found silky smooth and a pleasure to operate. A bmw 135i can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5. 4 seconds with the manual gearbox, 5. 3 seconds with the 7-speed dct. Fuel economy from the bmw 135i coupe is 20/28 mpg city/highway with the manual.  a bmw 1 series convertible can drop its top in just 22 seconds. Top-down motoring is one of life's great joys, so this is a great feature.  a bmw 1 series model is nearly seven inches shorter than a 3 series car. They are comfortable; sitting in one is like sitting in a 3 series. Underway, they are sporty and agile, driver's cars, with the feel of rear-wheel drive. We found a 128i convertible is a delight and it has enough power. Most fun to drive is a 135i coupe. We recommend against the m suspension due to the hard ride. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard, a 6-speed steptronic automatic is optional (no charge).  the bmw 135i coupe 39,050) includes a firmer sport suspension and high-performance brakes, m sport aero body kit, adaptive xenon headlights with washers, sunroof, gray poplar wood interior trim, and p215/40yr18 front tires leading p245/35yr18 rears. A 6-speed manual is standard the 7-speed dct dual clutch automated manual transmission is optional 450).  the bmw 128i convertible 36,600) and bmw 135i convertible 43,800) are equipped similarly to their coupe counterparts, except they don't have folding rear seats or a sunroof, and they ride on less radical rubber. The 128i soft top comes with p205/55hr16 run-flat rubber front and rear, while the 135i convertible gets p205/50r17 run-flat tires. Both come with a fully automatic fabric folding top. The bmw 135i convertible does not have the coupe's body kit. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard on 1 series convertibles; the 6-speed automatic is optional on the 128i (no charge); the 7-speed dct is optional for 135i 450).  the m sport package for the 128i coupe 2,450) and 128i convertible 2,700) comes with the increased top-speed limiter, m sport front seats, m sport steering wheel, aluminum interior trim, shadowliner trim, body cladding, sport suspension, and performance tires. A sport package 1,300) for the 128i models includes sports suspension, sport seats, shadowline exterior trim, an increased top-speed limiter, and p205/50r17 front and p225/45r17 rear run-flat tires. Wood trim is available on the 128i 500) and can be omitted from the 135i (for no charge).  the bmw 1 series m coupe 46,135) uses a twin-turbo 3. 0-liter inline six, a 6-speed manual transmission, m3 suspension, m3 disc-compound material, 19-inch light alloy m3 wheels, m variable differential lock, m dynamic mode, m button (selectable throttle mapping), m3 steering wheel, electronic power steering, 12-way power seats, black leather interior, alcantara trim, orange contrast stitching, xenon adaptive headlights, and rain sensor. The brake lights include a panic-braking mode that lights up the entire lens extra bright whenever the brake pedal is stomped hard. The federally mandated tire-pressure monitor is standard. walkaroundfor 2012, the bmw 128i coupe and convertible benefit from the air curtain, bmw's latest aerodynamic innovation. Introduced first on the 2011 bmw 1 series m coupe, the air curtain is now a standard feature on the 128i models as well. The air curtain improves air flow around the front wheel arches with the benefit of significantly reduced turbulence. The 128i can also be equipped with special aero wheels to further enhance the performance of the air curtain system. The air curtain design consists of openings in the outer section of the lower front fascia that route high-pressure air through ducts at each front corner. The ducts are approximately 10 x 3 centimeters wide and are designed to channel air to openings at the front of each wheel arch, where it is discharged through a very narrow opening at high speed. The escaping air stream covers the side of the front wheels like a curtain, thereby reducing aerodynamically unfavorable turbulence around the rotating wheels. Less turbulence means less resistance and better fuel economy.  the bmw 1 series is short in the rear compared to the larger 3 series, but it looks good that way. It doesn't look cheap or cut. 2006 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The retrowagon gets a facelift. introductionthe 2006 chrysler pt cruiser features its first significant facelift in six years. Inside and out, the new look is best described as more modern, but not so much so as to spoil the pt's toy-hot-rod fun.  chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. It doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments.  the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. It comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is shorter in length than a neon, making it easy to park. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  pricier turbocharged models add fire under the hood. For 2006, the fire has been turned up to 230 horsepower in the gt model. A more affordable 180-horsepower turbo is also available.  the convertible is one of the least expensive on the market. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 27,930) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies, and for '06 its 17-inch wheels are chrome-plated, just like the sedan's.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a new boston acoustics premium sound system (replacing last year's infinity system), but retaining the same 368-watt peak output. Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models this year 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895) for the vintage town & country look. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions, including the rear center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. T. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's or early 1940's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look has been refined for the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. Chrysler says the pt cruiser now has the face of chrysler, which seems to translate into a more horizontal-themed grille that no longer extends down below the bumper, topped by a more prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights now frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a new body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon. Yet with 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser sedan is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's certainly lower, by almost 3 inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design. With the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. Pretty cool.  drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. Less obvious improvements for 2006: all instruments are now bigger, the radio is mounted higher, the glovebox is larger, and the glovebox door is now damped.  the driver still faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 120. Window switches are still high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the new boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  a redesigned center console now incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The new console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a new coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee.

2009 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new sport-luxury sedan. introductionwith the 2009 tsx, acura has done a full remake of its entry-luxury level sedan. More than just bolting a slick new body on an old platform, the tsx is new from the ground up, as in, longer, wider and lower. In a couple measures, it's roomier, too.  technology is what sets the new tsx apart. Acura's superb navigation system comes standard and can be operated using voice-recognition. The standard navigation system is the equal of anything in the class, while an optional system displays real-time traffic with congestion re-routing and local and national weather. The top-line audio system sets a standard for the class, too, with superbly crisp surround sound. It comes with one engine, a 2. 4-liter inline-4, and a choice of transmissions, a six-speed manual and a five-speed sportshift sequential automatic. Although horsepower is off slightly, torque is increased by enough to make up any difference in sheer acceleration. Just as important, fuel economy is unchanged with the manual and improved with the automatic. The tsx stays with a front-wheel-drive configuration, whereas true sporty sedans are rear-wheel drive. That said, the tsx is one of the better-handling front-wheel-drive sedans and in its class, hard to beat as an everyday driver that can still be fun on a mountain road.  styling stays true to acura themes for 2009, but cleans up here and there to give the car a more aggressive, more buff look and to emphasize its more planted stance. The wider part, where it adds a couple inches between the wheels side to side, translates directly into a sportier driving feel.  everything inside that matters is powered, including the adjustments on both front seats. Dual-zone climate control and heated seats and outside mirrors are standard. The navigation system adds a rearview camera, acuralink real-time traffic (in 76 major metropolitan markets) with dynamic re-routing, acuralink weather and acuralink satellite communication system.  acura-approved, interior and exterior accessories are available from dealers. For inside, the list includes dark metallic and titian silver interior trim kits, trunk tray, trunk hooks, cargo organizer, and cargo net. Among those for the outside are 18-inch, 10-spoke, chrome-look or ebony-finish alloy wheels to replace the stock 17-inch aluminum alloys; backup sensor; wheel locks; sport bumper kit; rear bumper applique; deck lid spoiler or wing spoiler; moonroof visor; car cover; and nose mask.  safety features include a full complement of airbags to protect occupants front and rear in frontal and side impact crashes. Rear outboard seats provide anchors (latch) for child safety seats. Antilock brakes let the driver steer the car during emergency stops, brake assist boosts initial brake pressure in panic stops and electronic brake-force distribution apportions brake application between front and rear to optimize stopping distance. Electronic stability assist, coupled with traction control, adjusts brake and throttle to keep the car going where it's supposed to go through evasive or avoidance maneuvers or when road conditions deteriorate. The '09 tsx is no exception to that rule. Although it stretches the mold a bit, as it should, there's still no mistaking it for anything but one of honda's luxury line.  the front end nicely blends elements from acura's other two sedans, the sporty tl and the more serious rl, and from the mdx sport utility. The headlight housings, for instance, with their squinty lenses curling around the front fenders to reach deep into the arcs of the front wheelwells, look like a direct lift from the tl. The elongated, pentagonal chrome bar topping the similarly outlined grille pulls from both the mdx grille and the single bar slicing across the grille on the current tsx. The gaping lower air intake is a new design cue and shaves visual mass from what might otherwise be an overpowering front bumper while adding function by pumping needed cooling air into the engine compartment and reducing front end lift. Hood sculpting defines the tsx's centerline and front fenders.  the side view departs a bit more from the family look, but keeps just enough of the cues to stay true to its design dna. This is especially evident in the side lenses of the headlight and taillight housings and the silhouette of the trailing lip of the trunk lid, all of which closely mirror the '08 tsx. In much sharper relief, though, are the sculpted character lines in the door panels. These add visual bulk and combine with edgy wheel arches remindful, again, of the mdx to make a stronger statement about the car's sporty aspirations. Door handles embedded in the upper crease give the view a cleaner look.  the rear aspect, sad to say, suggests of recent toyota camrys more than of the previous tsx in its overly busy styling. A deeply cut horizontal line slices straight across the rear vertical of the trunk lid, itself looking almost concave against the gently convex vertical of the '08. Taillights bridge the seam between trunk and fenders as before but bracket a license plate recess that's inverted from the '08 tsx, visually pushing the trailing lip higher and seeming to add sheet metal across the lower reaches of the trunk lid. The rear bumper cups the trunk opening with unflattering sedan like bulk, which makes the hot rod-spec dual exhaust tips look a little lame. interiorliking the new acura tsx interior is easy. It's comfortable without being plush, sporty without being sparse. Communication between driver and car is, for the most part, open and easy and unabridged.  the front seats are supportive, with enough side bolstering for reasonably rambunctious motoring on twisty roads. The front seat passenger still gets shortchanged with no height adjustment, which leaves even taller people feeling as if they're sitting in a hole. The three inches tacked onto the tsx's width went mostly to more padding for side impact protection, but front-seat hip room is up by a solid inch.  the rear seat is more like a bench than twin buckets, and space for the lower extremities is snug, measuring by the tape a mere one-tenth of an inch roomier than the '08. This despite the addition of more than two inches to the '09's overall length and almost an inch and a half to its wheelbase. Rear head restraints adjust for height, which is a plus for its occupants, although that even when at their lowest position they obstruct the visibility out the back window from the inside rear view mirror is a minus. The steering wheel sports push buttons and toggles controlling more than a dozen functions, not counting the horn, making it look like it would be just as comfortable in a jet fighter cockpit as in a car. This may be just fine for fighter pilot walter mittys who fantasize about mixing it up with the other side's top guns, but for the rest of us, who just want to drive the car, it's a bit much. The center stack, however, with either the base sound and navigation system or the optional technology package, is one of the more intuitively arranged that we've seen, with large, finger-friendly buttons and a reasonably easy-to-learn multi-function joystick-like knob for the multi-layered information center-cum-map screen. The high-end audio setup does force the relocation of the cd changer down into the bowels of the center stack, where it's not as easily accessed as with the base system, which parks it at the top of the stack, but that's a minor complaint, and one that won't even show up on the technophiles' radar.  storage is more than adequate. Every door has a molded-in space for a water bottle, the front doors room for the proverbial map, although given a navigation system is standard, think guidebook or cds. The glove box has a partitioned nook for the owner's manual and associated booklets, leaving the rest for smallis. 1996 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The luxury hot rod of sport-utilities. introductionthe grand cherokee is the flagship of jeep's sport-utility family, and, in some respects, remains ahead of the ever-growing and ever-improving compact-class pack.  when chrysler introduced the grand cherokee in 1992 sport-utility sales already were booming, with jeep cherokee enjoying year-over-year sales gains for more than a decade. The idea was to take the cherokee concept a step up the aspirational ladder, combining rugged jeep attributes with the luxury, comfort and performance associated with expensive cars.  the combination has proved to be a winning one. Over a quarter-million grand cherokees rolled out of jeep-eagle dealerships last year, a total that was second only to ford's phenomenal explorer among all sport-utility vehicles. Obviously, the folks at jeep have been doing something right.  for 1996, the grand cherokee receives a number of significant detail changes. Most notably, the interior underwent a makeover, which included installation of dual airbags and more luxury options. Grand cherokee, however, has maintained the angular lines and boxy shape even through its latest restyling.  and it works. The distinctive, rugged jeep look, with its vertical grille and side-body cladding, still stands out from the competition.  the grand cherokee comes in three models: base, laredo and the top-of-the-line grand cherokee limited. Laredo and limited are both available with one of two 4wd systems--selec-trac, which can be used as a part-time system, or the more sophisticated quadra-trac, which operates continuously.  selec-trac is standard equipment on laredos equipped with 6-cyl. Engines and automatic transmissions. Grand cherokee limited models with 6-cyl. Engines come with the quadra-trac system. Quadra-trac is optional on v8-powered grand cherokees, and both models can also be ordered with rear-drive only, $24,603 for the basic laredo, $30,479 for the limited.  in contrast to the explorer and blazer/jimmy, there's no 2-door version of the grand cherokee. It's also smaller and generally lighter than its key rivals--particularly the explorer--riding a shorter wheelbase.  however, at 70. 9 in., the grand cherokee is the widest of the bunch, and in 4x4 trim it also provides the most ground clearance--8. 3 in. Good ground clearance is one of the keys to successful off-road performance, and off-road usefulness is a core value at jeep. interiorthe grand cherokee technically seats five. Indeed, three adults can wedge their way into the rear seat. But we found a long ride with two children and one adult in the back was cramped.  the front seats are buckets; the rear is a 60/40 split bench that flops forward to expand cargo volume. Pronounced thigh and torso bolsters give these seats a pleasantly snug feel, and provide good lateral support to keep the driver centered when the vehicle is bounding about in the backwoods.  all of the elements of any luxury sport-utility--or car, for that matter--are here. They include wood trim, automatic climate control, premium audio system, power windows, power mirrors, remote keyless entry and power-adjustable seats, to name only a few. There's less cargo capacity here than in the explorer and blazer/jimmy. The spare tire, stowed on the side of the rear storage compartment, cuts into the cargo space. The grand cherokee's key competitors have moved spare tire stowage underneath, operating on the theory that tire changes will be extremely rare since so few 4-door sport-utilities ever venture into off-road regions filled with sharp rocks and the like.  the grand cherokee's one-piece rear liftgate provides a wide opening for cargo loading, but is difficult for short folks to reach and close. Engine, which was re-engineered to reduce noise in the grand cherokee's 1996 makeover. The inline six has more power than the base engines in competing import sport-utilities, as well as the ford explorer base v6, and like all inline 6-cyl. Engines it's smooth.  but it's the v8 that really gives this vehicle its lively personality.  although there's now a v8 engine option for the ford explorer, the grand cherokee v8 still provides the best performance in the compact sport-utility class, as well as the best towing capability--as much as 6500 lbs. With the optional trailer towing package, which costs $359 on 6-cyl. Models, $242 with the v8.  the upper towing limit for the 6-cyl. Epa fuel economy ratings slide to 14 mpg city, 18 highway with the 5. 2-liter engine, compared to 15/20 for the 4. 0-liter 6-cyl.  however, we found it hard to worry about mpg when the v8 was whisking us down the freeway, or making short work of passing on country back roads. The v8 provided exceptional acceleration--by sport-utiity standards--from a dead stop and emitted a delightful low, throaty rumble from under the hood. Otherwise, the ride is quiet. We also detected slight body roll on wide sweeping curves at highway speeds, although this is common to almost all sport-utility vehicles.  braking was good, with 4-wheel disc brakes and anti-lock brakes as standard equipment.  in addition to its robust v8 power, we were also favorably impressed by the grand cherokee's ride quality on paved roads. With springs and shock absorbers tailored to dual demands, there's some stiffness, but this vehicle is less truck-like than many of its competitors.  naturally, the grand cherokee feels right at home on dirt roads, or no roads at all. In addition, it is equipped with good safety features, outstanding luxury amenities and the sophisticated quadra-trac option, all of which makes it a standout in a field filled with steadily improving choices.  with v8 power, it's the top performer in its class. Add distinctive styling, and it's easy to see why this vehicle remains a best-seller. assembled indetroit, mi. options as testedv8 engine, quadra-trac 4wd, automatic climate control, premium am/fm/cd/cassette sound system, power-adjustable heated leather seats, color-keyed body cladding, overhead console with compass, trip computer. model testedgrand cherokee limited v8. 2001 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New supercrew is best light-duty crew cab available. introductionthe f-150 is available in every imaginable pickup truck configuration. It can act like a serious work truck, an off-road toy, or a luxurious everyday vehicle that doubles as a highly capable weekend tool. There's even a hot rod.  it comes in a myriad of bed lengths, two different body styles, and now three distinct cab configurations. Crew cabs have become the big fad in compact and mid-size trucks the past couple of years, but with the exception of the tried-and-true super-long heavy-duty models, this new full-size ford crew cab is by far the most comfortable of the new trucks. Overall length is kept short by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet; though the bed is a compromise, it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with power-adjustable pedals and optional moonroof, rear-seat entertainment system, and a handsome leather interior.  as for the rest of the 2001 f-150 line, power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models. lineupthree engines are available: the standard engine is a 4. 2-liter v6 engine that generates 202 horsepower. The optional 4. 6-liter v8 produces 220 horsepower. The 5. 4-liter v8 produces 260 horsepower. And there are three trim levels: xl, xlt, and lariat. With colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, with much more attention paid to aerodynamic performance than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks much more like a car than the dodge or gm. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram looks long in the tooth, by comparison. The f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when maneuvering in tight city traffic. interiorin some ways, the ford f-150 interior is superior in flavor to the gm and dodge trucks. The f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's large cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the ford f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and better executed than the competition, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats have a recline feature and a lumbar support on the driver's side for even more driving comfort.  all pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Rear-seat comfort is such that and adult should be able to ride back there for longer trips.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat cargo space. It's a great place to put cargo or for big dogs. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. driving impressiontwo-wheel-drive f-150s use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear and a coil spring independent front suspension. We find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated at 220 horsepower and 290 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. For any customer contemplating those kinds of duties, the 5. 4-liter v8 engine is a much better choice. summaryford's f-150 is still among the most car-like of the full-size pickup trucks, with slick looks, pleasing performance, a comfortable cabin, and a proven powertrain.  ford's new f-150 supercrew is the most comfortable of the light-duty crew cabs currently available. model lineup4x2 styleside 120-in. 2000 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It just keeps going and going and going. introductionwhen we're all old and gray they're still going to be selling these things. Jeep cherokee is a case study in how long a solid design can remain viable, even when some of its elements have become dated. Cherokees sprouted in suburban driveways like mushrooms. Jeep sold more than 165,000 cherokees in 1999 - more than what it sold the year before. The reason: it's tough as nails and starts at less than $17,000. Se comes with wind-up windows and vinyl upholstery. Air conditioning is optional.  sport models add the new 4. 0-liter six-cylinder engine along with premium cloth. Sport models come packaged with air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, a tilt steering column and a rear wiper washer. Classic adds a higher level of trim and nicer cloth.  limited models come with leather upholstery and other features. And in international markets, as well. Square, tough and durable.  the cherokee was the first unitbody sport-utility vehicle, as distinct from the traditional body-on-frame approach. There are two levels of 4wd available for the cherokee, part-time command-trac and full-time selec-trac. interiorcherokee's interior shows its age and comes up a little short in the comfort department. It was hard to perceive its interior as cramped or awkward, because by the standards of the day they weren't. Times have changed, however. Suvs have become luxurious station wagons. Without a major redesign, the cherokee hasn't kept up with that trend. Newer entries place a high priority on comfort. Compared to them, the cherokee measures up as pretty snug, particularly in the rear seat.  it's also uncomfortable for the driver. Adjust as we might we were never quite able to achieve an ideal driving position. Cherokee's limited front seat travel left us sitting closer than we wanted to be, and reaching up for the wheel rim. The primary instruments are a bit small, but the secondary array is a little more comprehensive than average, including an ammeter and oil pressure gauge.  it's possible to load the cherokee with comfort and convenience features, including a good sound system with cassette and cd players, air conditioning, power driver's seat, an overhead digital info center and two digital clocks. All of this stuff makes the going more pleasant, but we'd trade most of it for better seats. In fact, we suspect some people would dismiss the cherokee as choppy on this score, and mark it down to a relatively short wheelbase. That would be true -- as far as it goes. However, this is not an explorer, a sport-utility vehicle designed for people who see this breed as trendy station wagons. The combination of good ground clearance, short wheelbase and a favorable power-to-weight ratio make this boxy little veteran a tiger in the woods. As always, we'd prefer a manual transmission.  power notwithstanding, the cherokee's optional six-cylinder engine feels a little primitive compared to most of the v6 engines offered by jeep's competitors. An inline-6 is supposed to be an ideal design for smooth operation, but jeep's version generates noticeable vibration through most of its operating range. It's also surprisingly quick with the six-cylinder engine.  lack of caution in the option shopping process can escalate its price beyond reason; $27,000 seems like a lot to spend on one of these. And at that price, even with its limitations, the jeep cherokee still stacks up as a good buy. model lineup4-door 4wd: se 19,230); sport 21,570); classic 23,040); limited 25,365)4-door 2wd: se 17,720); sport 20,060); classic 21,525); limited 23,245)2-door: 4wd se 18,195); 4wd sport 20,535); 2wd se 16,680); 2wd sport 19,025). assembled intoledo, ohio. options as testedam/fm/cd/cassette with graphic equalizer 410); infinity premium speakers 350); up country suspension group 725) includes heavy-duty suspension with gas shocks, deletes standard rear stabilizer bar, skid plate group (transfer case, fuel tank, front suspension skid plates), trak-lok differential, heavy-duty engine cooling, full-size spare tire, tow hooks. model testedcherokee sport 4wd 4-door 25,365). Mustang picks up the pace. IntroductionFord's Mustang was the first of a new breed of factory hot rod--the 'pony car'--when it was launched back in 1964, and during the decades that followed it's stuck largely to the same genetic coding: High performance, low tech and low cost.  With a simple rear-drive chassis borrowed from a sedan and lots of components borrowed from other Ford vehicle lines, the Mustang has always been relatively cheap to produce, delivering lots of performance at bargain prices. 1996 Ford Mustang Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Tachometer✔ Power Locks✔ AM/FM✔ Leather Seats✔ Cruise Control✔ Alloy Wheels
